ACTIVITY WITH EDPUZZLE - Day 5

Then and Now

Then ...
- We did this activity in class.
- I gave Ss the document below and encouraged them to read the questions before playing the video.
- Ss watched the video and answered the questions.

Advantages:
- I could make sure everybody had understood the questions and knew what they had to do.

Disadvantages:
- We had to watch the video three times so as to give everybody a chance to answer all the questions. What happened is that some Ss had already finished, whereas others were still working on the activity, but those who had finished had to watch the video again anyway.
- We also had to spend a few minutes correcting the activity, which means we had less time to do other activities in class.

And now ...
- I'm planning to use EDpuzzle and set this activity for homework.
- Ss will be given a code (b6z9oN) to enter the site, where they'll find the video with its questions.

Advantages:
- Ss will watch the video as many times as they need without "bothering" other Ss.
- Ss will hopefully be more actively engaged in their homework, at least more than with their boring workbook tasks ;)
- The teacher will know who has done the homework and the mark they've got even before starting the lesson. This should give us plenty of time to do other meaningful activities (speaking activities) in class.
- And last but not least, with EDpuzzle Ss won't have to share their personal data to sign up, all they need is a name (or nickname) and a password!

Disadvantages:
- Are there any disadvantages ;) ?

Why is this a Flipped Activity?
Because the teacher does not explain the theory in class, but gives Ss the necessary tools to study at home.
